An insert is a branch connection fitting on a pipe that provides an outlet from a large pipe to a smaller pipe or one of equal size. The insert is welded to the main pipe and the branch pipe that is connected is the branch pipe. Inserts are manufactured in a variety of alloys including stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum.
